Privacy Policy
Last updated June 9, 2026
This is a template policy provided for development. It must be reviewed and finalized with legal counsel before App Store submission.
Overview
Parse (“Parse,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a private journaling app that automatically turns your day into a searchable story. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. By using Parse, you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
Parse only accesses the categories of data you explicitly grant permission to on your device. Depending on the permissions you enable, this may include:
- Calendar & Reminders. Event titles, times, locations, and reminder contents used to describe what happened during your day.
- Photos. Photos and their metadata (such as capture time and embedded GPS coordinates). Coordinates may be reverse-geocoded into place names to add context to your entries.
- Health data. Activity and wellness metrics such as steps, sleep, and workouts read from Apple Health.
- Location. We do not continuously track your location. Location context is primarily derived from GPS coordinates embedded in your photos, which are reverse-geocoded into human-readable place names.
- Connected services. If you link Strava or Spotify, we receive the data those services make available — for example workouts and activities (Strava) or listening history and tracks (Spotify).
- Account & subscription data. An account identifier and subscription status. Payments are processed by Apple; we do not receive or store your full payment card details.
- Diagnostic data. Basic technical and crash information needed to operate and improve the app.
How we use your information
We use the data you provide to generate and improve your journal:
- To assemble the signals from your day and generate written journal entries on your behalf.
- To make your entries searchable so you can revisit moments from your life.
- To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the app.
- To manage your account, subscription, and free trial, and to communicate with you about the service.
How your data is processed
To generate your entries, the relevant data from your day is sent from your device to Parse's backend. There, it is processed by third-party large language model (LLM) providers — currently Google Gemini and/or OpenRouter — which transform the raw signals from your day into a written narrative. Only the data needed to generate an entry is shared with these providers for that purpose.
Third parties we share data with
- LLM providers (Google Gemini, OpenRouter). Receive day data to generate journal entries.
- Strava and Spotify. If you connect them, we exchange the tokens and data needed to import your activity and listening history.
- Apple. Processes subscription payments and the free trial through the App Store.
- Infrastructure providers. Hosting and storage vendors that run our backend on our behalf.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your personal content for advertising.
Data retention
We retain your journal entries and associated data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. You may delete individual entries or your entire account at any time, after which we will delete or de-identify the associated data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to withdraw permissions you previously granted. You can revoke Parse's access to Calendar, Photos, Health, or location at any time in your device settings, and disconnect Strava or Spotify within the app. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data in transit and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's privacy
Parse is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the app.
